Longstreet: It's WAR!!!!!

Abraham Lincoln's declaration of war
Finally there is assembled enough men and material to start a Longstreet campaign. We have had a few (4) demo games to get our heads around the concepts of the game and so far the honours are even.  This is my first game system with formations in a long long time, wheeling, advance by column and deploy in to line need to re-learnt.

The campaign starts at the outbreak of the civil war. A Union Brigade command by fresh minted Colonel Thaddeus Koch has been dispatched to Norfolk county to suppress any insurrection he may find there.  Colonel Koch's command consist of three regiments of infantry  (2nd Wisconsin, 69th and 88th New York) all consisting of ten companies of eager recruits.  The command is reinforced with a cavalry regiment (7th United States cavalry) consisting of 8 troops of cavalry, also eager recruits, and 1st New York light battery consisting of a Howitzer section and two Six-pounder sections.

But the Confederacy has not been idle.  A Confederate brigade has been raised and dispatched to Norfolk county.  The Brigade is lead by Colonial Nathaniel Cullen and consists of 1st, 4th and 5th Texas regiments each consisting of 10 companies of eager recruits. It is supported by eight eager recruit  troops of cavalry, from the 8th Texas cavalry regiment, and the 1st North Carolina artillery battery consisting of a Howitzer section and two Six-pounder sections.

After reading some Longstreet AAR's on the Mad Padre's blog, I picked up a copy of the rules and a bunch of ACW figs to start my own campaign. So far 1/2 way thru the rule book and I'm liking what I've read. Looking forward to seeing some of your own reports on how your campaign comes along sir!

It is a nice little rules set. It takes a few attempts to get some of the concepts but it is worth sticking to. I hope you enjoy it. What scale did you go for the figs?

A friend already had a pile of unpainted 15mm, so that's our scale. It'll be a while before we play though as he's moving and about to have another baby, but that's going to give me time to paint them all. :)
